چکیده

The notion of choice has been characterised as one of the regulating agents of intrinsicmotivation. A study being carried out at the Université H. Poincaré is investigating the effect ofchoice on cognitive and affective engagement during listening tasks. The study compares twogroups of English language learners specialising in other disciplines. The aim of the study is toattempt to clarify whether “unrestricted” choice genuinely enhances positive affectiveperceptions of the listening experience compared to denied-choice and control groups. A furtherquestion concerns cognitive engagement and whether any increase in favourable affectiveperceptions automatically leads to heightened cognitive engagement. This on-going studyexamines and provides insight into behaviour that may be typical of choice / no-choice learnersin the field of engineering sciences. The paper situates the French L2 motivational context withrespect to the Anglo-Saxon L2 motivational context on which the vast majority of currentmotivational theory is based. Relying on data gathered during this and previous studies, thepaper argues that conclusions about motivation drawn from dimensions of Anglo-Saxon cultureand learning tradition cannot always be automatically transferred to the French L2 context. Ab initio potential energy surface and second virial coefficient for Asp-His-Ser trimer

HF level of ab initio calculations with basis-set 6-31G including full counterpoise correction hasbeen applied to compute the AspHis potential with the Ser and HisSer potential with the Asp inAspHisSer trimer. The potential energy surface has a minimum of -16.765 kcal/mol in R1=1.912nm and R2=2.719 nm. The optimum computed curves for two interactions were fitted withintermolecular pair potentia...

Heavy Metals in the Environment: an Overview

Background: The epigenetics of ovarian carcinogenesis remains poorly described. We have in the present study investigated the promoter methylation status of 13 genes in primary ovarian carcinomas (n = 52) and their in vitro models (n = 4; ES-2, OV-90, OVCAR-3, and SKOV-3) by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP). Direct bisulphite sequencing analysis was used to confirm the methy...

D-β-aspartyl residue exhibiting uncommon high resistance to spontaneous peptide bond cleavage

Although L-amino acids were selected as main constituents of peptides and proteins during chemical evolution, D-aspartyl (Asp) residue is found in a variety of living tissues. In particular, D-β-Asp is thought to be stable than any other Asp isomers, and this could be a reason for gradual accumulation in abnormal proteins and peptides to modify their structures and functions. It is predicted th...
